Celebrating multicultural women in leadership

I love this month for the chance to look with gratitude at the women around me and who have gone before me. From breaking barriers to shaping entire industries, women – especially multicultural women – embody resilience, determination, and unwavering work ethic.

I like to think of us (all women) as a section in a braid – our stories blending and twisting and melding with the stories of those who have gone before and running into the stories of those coming along behind us.

What a privilege it is to get to be here now, weaving a beautiful braid with you.

Affirmation & encouragement for my multicultural women leaders!

I celebrate your work ethic.

Let’s honor what’s been passed to us. I think about the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and all the incredible women who gave their sweat and tears for the opportunities we hold now.

My parents came to the United States so that their child (me) could have a better future. I excelled in my academic life and today I feel I work hard to honor their sacrifice and journey. I know it’s not easy to balance family expectations (especially when you’re a working mother), and a feeling that we have to perform at high levels in all the areas due to what’s been sacrificed for us. In my day-to-day, I find myself in a constant evaluation and reevaluation to see how I’m doing in order to stay healthy and satisfied in my current stage in life.

I think we’re making our ancestors proud.

I celebrate your resilience.

Your strength is extraordinary, because you’ve had to flex it more than most. You’ve had to navigate your gender, ethnicity, and culture in profound ways, and you’ve been able to give yourself and others grace in the process. This resilience has allowed you to enrich the organizations you’re in with diversity of thought and life experience. You’ve believed you have a contribution to make, that differences are a positive, and that the future is promising – and this inspires us all.

I celebrate your culture add.

You don’t try to fit into your workplace culture, you add to it. You bring something utterly unique to the table. Because of your relentless leadership journey to get to where you are, you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo. Your diversity is one of your greatest assets – and you use your unique vantage point in leadership positions to help your team win, to create an environment of safety and trust, and to lift those around you.

Wrapping it up…

One of the advantages I think multicultural women especially have in leadership is an awareness that we’re doing this together. I see you! We support each other, we look for ways to empower each other, and we’re in a unique position to pave the way for generations to come. That’s a powerful responsibility – and a great joy.

I’m cheering you on!

Lead the way,
