Guiding Lines

Leading the way in what matters

For businesses and teams, it’s no longer just about your results – it’s about your standards and your culture.

At Matz Learning Solutions, we encourage and challenge leaders to consider DEI training in their leadership practices – not as something to be layered on, but truly rooted in. Not only are we all the better for it personally and professionally, but the overall business benefits too. It’s for the vision of a stronger future that we strive to weave the heart of DEI into all the leadership skills we teach.

We are committed.

This is a journey toward creating equitable workplaces where every employee has the opportunity to reach their full potential, where more innovative solutions result, and where every manager and employee feel like they have something to contribute. When we stand firm in this commitment, we become part of igniting a world of limitless leadership potential.

We believe…

  1. A diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment is the foundation that fosters a company culture of equitable opportunity that benefits all team members.

  2. Promoting the growth and development of women in particular is critical for the success of teams, the greater organization, and even the global economy.

  3. When we provide opportunities for all employees to learn, grow, and develop their skills and knowledge, we unlock higher levels of engagement that directly correlate to positive business outcomes and growth.

  4. Encouraging employees to bring their whole selves to work and valuing the tapestry of unique perspectives and experiences creates a more inclusive workplace, forges connections, and supports honest conversation.

  5. Leaders who maintain a posture of open-mindedness, receptiveness, and gratitude can demonstrate empathy and bravely stand for diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of their actions.

What does DEI mean to us?

Diverse

Each person has a story – their upbringing, their country, their state and city, their education, their innate personality and characteristics, their journey to the present moment – and diversity is the notion that these unique stories add strength and value to a group.

Inclusive

The act of bringing diverse humans together in community and creating a learning environment where everyone feels welcomed, seen, and heard. Ideas and contributions from all levels and experiences are considered.

Equitable

Ensuring that all individuals have equal access to opportunities for learning & development – which means everyone has an equal chance to succeed.

Q:

“Marisa, what’s one way I can start being more intentional about DEI?”

A:

An important aspect to consider is your practice of engaging in diligent conversations to really hear and see people. I believe in maintaining a learning-focused mindset in all interactions and conversations, where you can consciously slow down your internal thoughts and breath to help you listen and show you care about their story.

As an adult educator, my role is to create a safe learning space, one where I can be a trusted colleague and partner. This conscious practice has helped me and continues to support a deeper and more authentic relationship with my participants, so that we can all grow and move forward together.

Trainer Notes

“I imagine a future where employees can come to their manager and show emotion – any emotion – and that leader would be comfortable enough to empathize with that emotion. Empathy isn’t easy, especially when someone’s story is very different from ours. I feel a responsibility to help leaders develop empathy because not only is it the right thing to do, today’s workforce requires it in their workplaces.”
